Orchard Valley Youth Soccer League (OVYSL) will sponsor a Grade 8 Referee Class in early April 2008. To sign up, please contact Tony Rodrigues at mrsoccer@garlic.com. Here are the specifics of the class: Class Requirements? Attend six 3-hour sessions for a total of 18 hours. There will be three sessions per week for a total of two weeks. Who can take the class? Any person 12 years or older can take the class. The class will accommodate 25 students. What are the testing criteria? On the last day there is a one hour review followed by taking a written 100 multiple choice and true and false question test. (Note:You can only miss one class day) You need a score of 75% or better to pass the class. When is the class going to be held? Date Day Time April 7 Monday 6:30 to 9:30 PM April 9 Wednesday 6:30 to 9:30 PM April 11 Friday 6:30 to 9:30 PM April 14 Monday 6:30 to 9:30 PM April 16 Wednesday 6:30 to 9:30 PM April 18 Friday 6:30 to 9:30 PM Where is the class to be held? The class will be held at the IFDES Portuguese Hall at 250 Old Gilroy Street, in Gilroy. What is the cost? The cost is $55.00 per person and includes the referee license ($25.00), instructors’ fee, Laws of the Game, Referee Administrative Booklet, note taking supplies, and refreshments. Why should I become a soccer referee? Participants can benefit by learning the 17 Laws of the Game, earn extra money by refereeing recreation (Class 4), Delgado (Class 3), or Abronzino (Class 1) matches as either a referee or assistant referee, and supporting Orchard Valley’s obligation to the soccer community of having qualified and certified referee to referee home matches. Orchard Valley requires Class 1 and 3 head coaches to have a Grade 8 referee license to coach at that level. Coaches who want to pursue a Coaches National D license require a Grade 8 referee license as a prerequisite. Who do I contact to sign up for the referee class?
