Spring 2016 - OV Rec Program

For U6 & U8 players, our program will have a completely different look than previous seasons.  Instead of traditional teams with volunteer/parent coaches, we will be instituting a clinic-style program.  All players in U6 & U8 will be signing up for a specific training day/time and will be trained in small groups.  Training days will be managed by professional coaches supplied by our partner 24/7 UK Soccer Academy.

Another change for U6 & U8 players is game days will be less formal too.  Players will be separated into groups on game days and will play games under the supervision of the trainers.  The trainers will attempt to create an environment where each child is competing against players of similar skill/ability, so each child has the opportunity to succeed (and subsequently have more fun).  We will be looking for parent volunteers to help facilitate the game days.

Practices will be held at the Morgan Hill Outdoor Sports Complex on the grass fields.

Games will be at Live Oak High School on the grass field area.  If game dates are rained out, there will not be make-up dates. Game days will be on Saturday mornings.

OVYSL will provide a t-shirt/jersey, which will be worn for each game date.  The players will be grouped according to ability/skill level and games will be played.

Shin guards should be worn for each practice and game date.  Cleats are encouraged, but not required.

For those of you with U10, U12 and U14 Recreational players, we are not planning any significant changes to those programs at this time.

Registration and General Information for All Age Groups:

Reminder Emails:  Throughout the online registration period, OVYSL sends out ‘Registration Reminder’ emails to its entire customer base.  It is not possible for OVYSL to target only those players that have not yet registered and therefore, all customers will continue to receive the ‘Registration Reminder’ emails, although they may have already registered.  Receipt of an OVYSL email reminder is not an indicator that your player has not been registered.  We apologize in advance for this inconvenience.

Mail-In Registration Process: Although online registration is strongly encouraged, a mail-in procedure exists for players that are not able to register online or for those wait list players that have been informed by OVYSL’s Registrar that a spot has opened, after the online system has closed.

  1. For U6, U8 and U10 Players, as well as ALL New Players:  Download and complete a 1601 Registration Form. Click here for a 1601 Form.
  2. Make checks payable to “OVYSL”. Do not pay with cash.  Include the registration fee and a late fee of $45.00, if registering after January 25th.
  3. Include player’s birth certificate if player is new to OVYSL.
  4. Mail all registration documents and fees to OVYSL’s Registrar or drop this package off at the Registrar’s address. Place the package into the “Recreation” soccer box, located on the front porch. Please do not ring the doorbell. Click here for Registrar’s Contact Information.

Registration Fees:  Registration Fees are non-refundable, once the player has been registered.

Register Early:  All players are added to team rosters on a First Come - First Serve Basis.

Play Thru rosters (for age groups U11 – U14) will close when they reach their maximum capacity.  Play Thru rosters, for any of the age groups, can be at maximum capacity (and therefore closed), even when online registration remains open.  For more information about the timing of that notification and the refund, please see the Play Thru Information Page.

1601 Registration Form:  All U6, U8 and U10 recreation players must email or mail a completed and signed 1601 Registration Form to OVYSL’s Registrar.  In addition, these players must provide their coach with a completed and signed copyof the 1601 Form, on the first day of practice, BEFORE the player can begin practice.  The copy that you provide to the Registrar WILL NOT be forwarded to the coach.  Click here for a 1601 Form.  Click here for Registrar’s Email and Postal Information.

Birth Certificate:   A Birth Certificate is required from each player that is new to OVYSL.  Birth Certificates can be emailed or mailed to OVYSL’s Registrar. Click here for Registrar’s Email and Postal InformationEffective Spring 2012, once a birth certificate is submitted by a player, that player will not be required to do so in any future seasons.

Player’s Current Contact Information is Essential:  While registering online, verify that the player’s phone number and email address, in the player’s permanent record, are current.  Please edit the contact information if necessary.  This will allow OVYSL to communicate important League announcements and to effectively connect players with their coaches.

Age Groups:  The age group, into which a player is placed, is determined by the player’s date of birth.  NO EXCEPTIONS will be made that allow for players to play up an age group, or to play down an age group.  OVYSL’s Competitive Program is available to most players that are exceptionally skilled.  Please contact Tony Porta at doc@ovysl.org, for information regarding competitive soccer opportunities.

Teams:  Players are NOT allowed to switch teams once rosters are set.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

Volunteer Program:  OVYSL’s Recreational Program is comprised of volunteer coaches, and therefore there is no guarantee that a player can be placed with a coach that will hold practice in the city in which the player resides.  Each volunteer coach determines their team’s practice times and locations, based on their personal schedule, and these times and locations can change at any time during the season.  Coaches are at liberty to hold practices on Mondays - Thursdays, in Morgan Hill, Gilroy, San Martin or any combination of these days and locations.  Many of the Recreation coaches are choosing to practice at the Morgan Hill Outdoor Sports Plex, if space permits.

Practices and Games:  Practices are held Monday through Thursday only.  The coach will determine the location, number of practices a week (generally one or two), and the duration (generally 45 min - 1.5 hours, depending on age group).  Games are held Saturday mornings beginning at 9:00am and generally end in the early afternoon (depending on the number of teams in a given season).  Game times for teams can vary each Saturday.  Game schedules will be posted to the web site a minimum of two weeks before season games begin.

Uniforms:  U6 - U14 players will be provided with a full uniform (jersey, shorts, socks).

Medals:  All players will receive a participation medal at the end of the season.

Team and Individual Pictures:   During the fall season, Shooting Stars photographs all teams and players.  Each player will receive a complementary Photo Mate (team and individual photo).  The Spring Program does not include a Picture Day.
